Water Scarcity

By: Yeraldi Rico      Feb. 8, 2018

Water Scarcity is a big issue that gets overlooked by many people. Many people don’t know what this is issue is. What Scarcity is a very important issue for us humans as water is needed in order to survive.

In many parts of the world obtaining water is a big issue. Our state is also in a very critical condition. In Las Vegas water shortage is becoming a big concern, considering the big population of residents and tourist that live there each year. It is estimated that by the year of 2035 over 40% of the worlds population will live in seriously water-stressed areas. Obtaining fresh drinkable water will be a challenge for those who live in rural areas. Not only is the United States suffering but Puerto Rico and Africa is also being largely impacted. The natural disasters that have happened in Puerto Rico has cause the water

there to be undrinkable which has more than nine

thousand people waiting for safe water. There are

also many parts of Africa that are in droughts and

have no water. Water scarcity is caused by many

different reasons. Two of the main ones though are

because of climate change and because of us humans.

As humans we take many resources we get from the

earth for granted. We don’t use water to a limit,

many of us may believe it is unlimited, because of

this we use water like it’s nothing. We may leave the faucet running and not think about how much water was wasted because of that action. The problem is not only the fact we don’t take care of our water usage but also all the water pollution that we don’t take care of. Almost all of the human uses for water result in water pollution. All this water waste then gets dumped into river, lakes, and oceans without any treatment. Not only is this harmful to us but it also kills many animals. This is increasing the insufficient ways to access safe, affordable water. Many ecosystems are also in danger because of this crisis. The most endangered ecosystem is the freshwater biodiversity. The freshwater ecosystem is more endangered because the chemicals are more harmful due to their environment.

The problem is very clear, water is a resource we need survive. We however need to make an effort to keep our planet safe and our water clean for everyone to use. Not only will we suffer because of our poorly made choices but the biodiversity of our ecosystem will too.
