Rape Scandals of 2017

After the infamous Harvey Weinstein case, 71 other figures of Hollywood were accused of rape. Some of our favorite stars were accused, like Matt Lauer, Louis C.K, Jeffrey Tambor, and others. Of all the events that occurred throughout 2017, these have to be one of the most memorable, because our own heroes, people we look up to and worship, had ruined the life of someone else and had no way to take it back or to make it better. It is truly sickening to imagine: the fear, burden, and emotional scarring the victim carries with them. These people, ranging anywhere from young boys to women, commonly waited to say anything. After hearing about these cases, it makes one wonder if there are more people out there who have been taken advantage of and think about instances where the criminal has gotten off easy, due to their popularity and money. The harshest punishments serviced are being fired or dropped from a few roles. Most deny any cases where they purposely caused any fear or discomfort. “I didn’t grope anybody. I might have kissed somebody on the cheek to say goodbye and then licked them. ... I’m not trying to sexually harass people.”
“The allegations are not true.”
“The idea that I ever assaulted any woman is preposterous.” All these quotes are from Hollywood stars, or the 1%ers. All of which refuse to accept the severe responsibility and apologize for what they had done. They refuse to have their good name tainted for fear of one less 0 on their checks. The disease is starting to spread to children networks. The whole reason Jake Paul was fired from Disney channel was because of his inappropriate actions towards females. This sets a poor impression on children, and it will ruin lives. We can only imagine that in 2018, stars will realize what impact they have on the public and use it responsibly. They do not realize the chance they are given, and they should only be remembered for influencing our world in the best way they can. Here’s to 2018, a hopeful year of taking accountability and using respect.
