Top 10 Moments in Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy is based on the life of Meredith Grey and her journey into becoming a surgeon alongside her friends. She is the daughter of a well-known surgeon, Ellis Grey, which gives her an incredibly high reputation to uphold. There are many obstacles Grey and her friends must overcome. Here are the top 10 moments in Grey’s Anatomy of 2017. Spoiler Alert! Read at your own risk!

  1. Eliza Minnick Causes the Attendings to Revolt

After the chief of surgery, Dr. Miranda Bailey decides that the hospital’s surgical residency program is in need of remodeling. She hires a new instructor, Eliza Minnick, who essentially kicks Dr. Richard Webber out of the program. Webber has been the instructor for many years. He was the doctor who instructed Dr. Bailey. Webber then tells the attendings that he is no longer the surgical residency program’s instructor, which makes them want to fight Bailey’s decision. Once Dr. Minnick arrives, she immediately wins over the residents with her innovative teaching methods which allows her students to have more hands-on experience in the operating room. The resentment of Minnick eventually ends when Bailey fires her.

  1. Jackson Avery and April Kepner in Montana

Jackson Avery and his ex-wife, April Kepner, fly to Montana while they are in a rocky relationship to help a little girl who has a tumor in her esophagus and has lost her voice. They arrive at the hospital to check up on their patient to ensure that everything was prepared for the surgery the following day. Kepner suggests that they work together to review their patient’s information but Jackson immediately brushes her offer aside, stating that he has something important to do. Jackson goes to the bar that his father owns to attempt to talk to him, but his father doesn’t recognize him and Jackson leaves. Kepner discovers that their donor’s esophagus is no longer a viable option and tries to contact Avery, but he is nowhere to be found. The following morning, they break the news to the girl’s parents, who say they are going to transfer their daughter to another hospital if they cannot help her. April and Jackson are discussing his encounter with his father while trying to figure out a solution. Suddenly, Avery is enlightened with the idea that they could replace the girl’s esophagus with a piece of her intestine, which would also give her her voice back. Jackson returns to his father’s bar to confess all of his thoughts to him, stating that he is not Jackson’s father because fathers make a promise to their children to not leave and his father broke that promise. Avery and Kepner return to Seattle.

  1. Harper Avery’s Death

The Harper Avery Foundation is very well-known organization who owns and directs many hospitals including Grey Sloan memorial. Harper Avery, Jackson’s grandfather, visits the hospital and meets with Dr. Bailey and Jackson’s mother, Catherine Avery. Harper Avery is a very bitter old man and expresses his disapproval of Bailey’s decisions as chief of surgery, which ultimately leads him to firing her. She and Catherine step out of the room to discuss the situation, but when they enter the room they discover Harper Avery, face down on the table. They rush to his side to check his pulse but there isn’t one. Fortunately, Catherine says that Bailey is not fired since Harper Avery passed before his decision could be processed.

  1. Owen Hunt’s Long Lost Sister is Found Alive

Many episodes ago, Owen Hunt tells how while he and his sister were in the military, she never returned from a mission. He places the blame on Nathan Riggs, who was with her on that mission, which turns them into enemies. One fateful day, two people in military uniforms knock on Hunt’s door to tell him that his sister had been found. This news turned his world upside down.

  1. Nathan Riggs Proposes to Megan Hunt

Nathan Riggs was in a relationship with Megan Hunt in the military before she had disappeared. After learning that she had not come back, he was devastated but eventually he moved on. He and Meredith Grey were starting a relationship until he discovered that his long-lost lover was found. Nathan proposes to Megan, but she says that she will not walk down the aisle because she can tell that he is still in love with Meredith by the way he talks about her. Meredith then helps Nathan convince Megan that he is not in love with Meredith.

  1. Amelia Shepherd’s Tumor

Amidst all the family drama going on with her husband, Owen Hunt, she decides to participate in a study where women masturbate in a CT scanner to see all the different parts that light up when they climax. The CT scan instead reveals a massive brain tumor. She undergoes surgery but is afraid that it will impact her personality and her ability to be a surgeon. Fortunately, everything goes well, but she realizes that her tumor was the thing making her so impulsive and decides that maybe being married to Owen was the tumor talking. She eventually asks Owen for a divorce.

  1. The Hospital is Set on Fire While a Rapist is on the Loose

When the staff find out that a patient had raped another patient before they were rushed to the emergency room, the hospital is put on lockdown. Dr. Stephanie Edwards was stuck with the rapist and she soon discovers that he is the rapist. He holds a scalpel to her and demands to be escorted out of the hospital. When her badge no longer works on the doors because the hospital was on lockdown, they attempt to set a fire to overrun the lockdown so that they could get out. While they were starting the fire, Edwards sets the man on fire, but then he gets closer to explosive structures which causes an explosion.

The hospital is evacuated but Edwards is stuck in the hospital with a little girl, nobody knowing where she is. They are finally found with many burns at the end of the episode.

  1. Ben Warren’s Career Change

After saving Stephanie Edward from the hospital fire, he realizes that he wants to become a firefighter. Unfortunately his wife, Dr. Miranda Bailey, disagrees with his decision, claiming that he is putting his life at risk, which puts a significant amount of strain on their marriage.

  1. Meredith Grey’s Harper Avery Award

After performing an abdominal skin transplant on Megan Hunt, her innovative actions are recognized by the Harper Avery Foundation. They award elite, creative, and innovative surgeons all around the country. Meredith Grey is nominated for her very first Harper Avery. The day comes to travel to the awards, but she chooses to stay in the hospital to help two patients stuck in an amusement park ride. She later watches the award show on a TV in her OR. Jackson Avery, who attended the event in place of Meredith, announces that she is the winner and gives a speech explaining why Grey is such a great surgeon.

  1. Grey Sloan Memorial is Hacked

Heart monitor machines in the hospital are glitching. They flatline when the patient’s heat is still beating which causes havoc in the hospital and the computers begin to glitch too. Sometime later, a message on every screen appears demanding 20 million dollars. The FBI also arrives warning Bailey not to pay the amount or else this could lead to the hacking of many other hospitals. The doctors run into problems since all of their charts were on their tablets which are inaccessible at the moment. The power is repeatedly turned on and off to pressure them into paying the money. The heat is also turned up. The episode ends here with the other half airing in 2018.
