The Endangerment of Elephants

By: Audrey Goff     Feb. 9, 2018

The endangerment of Elephants has been very heartbreaking over the past 39 years they have been on the endangered list. Now In 2017 only with estimated 415,000 elephants in Central African, there is only 40,000-50,000 left in Asia. The elephant population is dropping dramatically. Elephants can die from predators such as lions, hyenas, and, crocodiles will feed upon young elephants also sick elephants and elder elephants. Also diseases and illnesses Cause elephant deaths. Sadly human impact has been a leading threat to the elephant population. A main threat is poaching.

Poaching is to illegally hunt or catch on land that is

not one's own, or in contravention of official

protection. Many poachers will come across the world

just to kill elephants for their tusk, specifically

the ivory that is inside of their tusk. The lack of

guidance and leadership humans have to save these

animals are very weak and non helpful when we could

all help these endangered animals get off the

endangered animals list. Any poachers also do this

for their “ trophy hunt” this is when the hunter hunts

just to keep the elephant as a trophy in their

property, am primarily American and European origin they spend between 15,000 and 20,000 dollars to hunt an elephant. Some will even hunt just to eat elephant meat.  â€‹

Another conflict human impact has on elephants is habitat lost. Human population growth and development has decreased many elephant habitats. Due to the large diet elephants the habitats are over exploited and damaged. Also due to the increasing number I'm elephant population in smaller areas, elephants population has limited sources.
