    2017 was filled with hits and misses on YouTube. In this article we will take a look at some of those not so bright moments.

  1.  YouTube stunt goes wrong:

A young teen by the name of Monalisa Perez shoots and accidentally kills her boyfriend Pedo Ruiz. The couple’s plan was to test if a large book could stop the bullet before killing Ruiz, which was fatally miscalculated and Monalisa plead guilty to manslaughter sentencing her to 6 months in prison.

  1. Anthony quits Smosh:

Anthony’s leaving of Smosh was a huge shock considering he was a member of the popular YouTube channel Smosh Bros for 12 years. Anthony Padilla quit and plans to go solo. Why? Anthony says that “Smosh, being a part of a company has put all my creative decisions through a filter of what is appropriate for the Smosh as deemed by the company. I need to feel that happiness again” Anthony’s sudden leaving of the channel is not related to his friendship with the other half of the channel. Ian Hecox and he are still good friends.

 

2.Jeffree Star apologizes for racist history:

Jeffree Star, certainly not being the only YouTuber making racist remarks, apologized for racist remarks in the past. He made a video to apologize to which he says that “I know exactly the person I am today, but I do not know who that person was,” He also claims that at the time he was depressed and attention seeking, and that it cannot be excused, although Kim Kardashian made a failed attempt to excuse his behalf.

 

3.YouTube’s algorithm shuts down

YouTube stars aren’t the only ones with problems, well maybe they are. Towards the end of 2016 YouTube made a few changes which completely messed with some of its creators. Anywhere from stars’ channels randomly losing subscribers to numerous videos of YouTube recruiting its viewers to monitor videos.

 

4.Daddy0five charged with child neglect:

The father and stepmother who terrorize their children for views. The stunts got them charged with child neglect in which they plead guilty to and released an apology video.

 

5. Jake Paul becomes hated by many:

Jake Paul’s “team 10” crew collectively lived in a house located in a quiet upper-class neighborhood and were soon kicked out due to reckless behavior. It ranged anywhere from fires in the backyard pool as tall as the house to disrespecting news reporters in interviews. Jake was also fired from his Disney show for inappropriate behaviors. Jake Paul also made a confrontation video to the popular artist Post Malone and featured Post’s location in the video.

 

6.Logan Paul disrespects japan:

Talk about double trouble with the Paul brothers, towards the end of 2017 Logan released a video of him running amuck in Japan. The video features him visiting an ancient temple and being kicked out, he was yelling at people on the street, destroying things from vendors, buying raw fish and throwing them at people, and finally visiting the suicide forest and filming a man hanging from a noose and laughing at it.

 

7. Anita confronts haters in a panel:

YouTube activist Anita Sarkeesian, a high-profile victim of online sexist attacks, faced one of her abusers. While speaking on a panel about women online, Sarkeesian was asked why she’s kept up the discourse about Gamergate. Her stunning answer: “Because I think someone in the front row that is a notorious harasser of mine is filming this panel.” The attacker she mentions is Sarragon who is one of her harshest attackers. He then later posted a video pointing out her violations to VidCons policies, to which VidCon apologized for.
