The Greatest Showman

The Greatest Showman was one of the best motion pictures of 2017. This movie houses some of the most inspiring actors with Hugh Jackman as P.T Barnum, Zac Efron as Phillipe, and Zendaya as Anne wheeler.

This film is the inspiring true story of P.T. Barnum, who originally created the circus. He gathered together “freaks”, people who are different, to create something new and creative. During this time period it was weird to be different and people didn’t like the idea of “freaks”. People felt like they were being lied to, which was correct in a sense that P.T. barnum did tweak the “freaks”. Many people were not on board with the thought of something new like a freak show.

The movie also follows a short love story between Anne wheeler and Phillippe, but I won’t go into too much detail as to not spoil it. The movie is actually pretty accurate to the true story of P.T Barnum, but like all movies it’s not 100 percent true. As Zac Efron's character is not real he was created for the very real character Anne Wheeler to manipulate into a love story.

This motion picture, while great to see, is also a joy to listen to. If you haven’t seen the movie, just listening to the sound track will make you want to get up and leave whatever you’re doing just to go see this movie.The Greatest Showman was nominated for three golden globes. The nominations ranged from best motion picture to best musical or comedy, best performance by an actor in a motion picture, which Hugh Jackman should have won, and best original song. While it was nominated for three golden globes it unfortunately only won one which was best original song. The song is called “This is Me” and was written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. This is their second time winning a golden globe for best original song. Their first being city of stars that they created for the musical La La Land. This award was won because of the amazing pipes of Keala Settle, the bearded lady, and The Greatest Showman cast. It also provides an outlet to its audience giving them the confidence to be who they are without the judgement of others affecting who they are as a person.

This song is about how the people in the circus (the freaks) aren’t afraid to be who they are anymore. After being told by P.T. Barmen that they cannot attend a party that was being held for an opera singer because it was for real and normal people. He does this because he is afraid of being ridiculed in front of the new crowd he has finally been accepted into.

In the end P.T Barmen turns away the group of people who supported him, in hopes of obtaining a richer life. Overall it was a great movie, although some changes may have improved it, it ended very well and I would highly recommend watching it.
