Most Popular Shows on Hulu
By Brenna Lewis: Feb 11, 2018
I think it somewhat important to point out a quick disclaimer: this list has nothing to do with my own personal opinions of Hulu shows, but rather which shows (whether or not they actually came out in 2017), were the most viewed during 2017 and a brief description of why. It must also be noted that this list covers all categories, and currently comedy has been more successful than drama.
5. Rick and Morty
The third season of this interdimensional adult comedy aired in October and follows the adventures of Rick (a mad scientist) and his gullible grandson Morty. The animated show has received a score of 97% on rotten tomatoes, with more than 11 million people tuning in to stream its season three premier in April. The series is known and loved for its original cynical comedy, and its audience consists largely of millennials. It demonstrates the growing number of viewers who are looking for a laugh rather than something more serious.
4. Bobs Burgers
Another animated sitcom, but this show is full of dry humor. It is centered around Bob, the owner of his own restaurant (Bob’s Burgers) and his “unique” family. It has become so popular throughout the years that it has its own comic book and even a soundtrack (among much more).
3. Law and Order: SVU
The only show on this list that isn’t an adult cartoon, Law and Order SVU is a legal crime drama set in New York City. In it, Olivia Benson leads her elite team of detectives who investigate sexually based offenses. The huge amount of people who have watched this show over the years have allowed it to continue to run since 1999, with its 19th season beginning in 2017.
2. Family Guy
Yet another animated sitcom, this show is “sick, twisted and politically incorrect”, yet that doesn’t seem to bother its millions of fans from streaming it via Hulu. In fact, it could be because of this very fact that people enjoy the somewhat unrealistic adventures of the Griffin family so much. Whatever the case, it is clearly very popular, which is why it has earned a spot on this list.

South Park
With the huge amount of political conflict seen during 2017, this show has found a way to make fun of it as much as possible. Although it is about the escapades of four boys (Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman), it is far from a children’s show- also including characters such as Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, and various politicians/celebrities. A comedy central series full of dark satyr, it has 21 seasons and 287 episodes, with its first aired back in 1998. Due to its vast audience and continued success over the years, the fact that it was the most watched show on hulu in 2017 (with 107 million hours streamed) is an enormous accomplishment.
