By Ana Simental Jan 30, 2018
Summary: Baby (Ansel Elgort) is a young getaway driver, with a passion for both music and the road. With his playlist in tune and a steering wheel in hand, Baby speeds his way through organized crime, under the command of crime boss Doc (Kevin Spacey). After years of servitude, Baby believes he is finally free of his misdemeanor lifestyle, and those in it. But once he meets the girl of his dreams, Debora (Lily James) in a diner, his world turns upside down. Now he not only faces brutish thugs that threaten everything he cares for and loves, but also his lies and criminal actions. To escape, Baby will have to use all his skill, daring, and best mixtapes for a breathing chance.
If you have not yet figured it out, Baby Driver is a fantastic and original film. The creativity and uniqueness of this movie left both critics and audiences in awe. What makes this movie stand out so well is the fact that the entire movie is cut in rhythm with its soundtrack (which is pretty good). So when guns are fired or car doors are shut it is to the rhythm and beat. This astounding idea was derived from the director and writer Edgar Wright, best known for Shean of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Edgar had been toying with the whole concept of Baby Driver in his mind since he was 21. He said in one of his interviews “I always had a strong reaction to music. I don't have synesthesia or anything, but definitely when I'm listening to music I start kind of visualizing images. And listening to ‘Bell Bottoms’ I just started to see this car chase. And I didnt even know that it was a film or what the story was or what it was about, but it basically is pretty much the opening of the movie that you see.” In Baby Driver the music is tied into the scenes and the plot, just because of an idea that happened 22 years ago, all starting with song “Bell Bottoms”. For the following years to come, Edgar tinkered with different songs and ideas to finally create Baby Driver to be what it is today.
Overall Baby Driver is crazy, and a fun new taste of cinematic entertainment. Every scene jumps right at you and keeps you on the edge of your seat. So go rent it on Amazon, or just go buy it. Once you finish, you will play your best playlists as loud as possible while driving, and with every beat you will feel the spirit of Baby Driver.
